Time Comes and Goes

Today is May 4th. To many it’s just another Friday that has nothing to do with history or reality.

Few people truly understand the significance of Chen Guangcheng’s case. Few people fully grasp the meaning of being able to stand up alone, in a deadly quiet society of stability and harmony.

Chen represents the voiceless, the faceless, the powerless, and the hopeless. Chen has been fighting long enough against the forces representing the evil, the biased, the discriminatory, the abusive, and the privileged. He doesn’t have to be a sacrifice for the society, he doesn’t have to be a fallen hero for others to watch and remember. He doesn’t have the power to change the reality. Yet he fights on. This is why he deserves the kind of attention the whole world is giving him. But it won’t last long.

A political system is the choice of the people. If they choose to survive under the dark cover of lies then they shouldn’t complain about not being able to see the light of truth.
In a society that is filled with tragedies and struggles people have shorter memories. It’s painful to remember and it’s easier to survive in the fast changing reality so that they can move towards the unknown future, although there might not be a real future. But dreams are always sweeter than reality.     

Soon will be June. June is a time that will never be forgotten by many. Yet as long as the young don’t know, June will always begin with the Children’s Day in celebration.
